How to prepare for a successful maternity photography session

• Schedule your photo session on a day that you, your partner and your children (if they are going to be in the shoot) will be relaxed and well rested. Try not to schedule too many appointments on that day before or after the shoot.
• At least two hours before our shoot, please try to remove anything with elastic, such as a tight shirt, pants, underwear or a bra to prevent strap marks from appearing on your skin.
• Eat a light snack before the shoot.
• Make-up should be light and natural looking. A light foundation, blush etc. to even out skin tones is perfect. Too much eyeliner or eye shadow can look very dark on film. If you want us to recommend a professional do your make-up, please allow us to make a recommendation.
• Special jewelry is a nice accessory to the photographs, though too much jewelry can be distracting. If you have any questions, just bring it along.
• Hair should be fixed so you are comfortable with it. Some mothers prefer to go to a stylist before the shoot; others prefer to fix their hair on their own. If you want us to have a stylist during your shoot, please let us know.
• Feel free to bring anything that you feel good in or want to be included in the photograph, including flowers or special clothing, such as scarves, shawls, veils.
• If you are being photographed with your partner, please have him/her bring or wear dark pants and a solid dark shirt, long or short sleeved is fine. Mothers should bring a dark maternity skirt and black cardigan sweater and tank top -- something to cover the breasts but still expose the belly.
• If the shoot is in your home, only the family should be present to prevent distractions.

How to Have the Perfect Newborn Photography Session Getting perfect photos taken of your newborn seems easy, right? You do the right research, choose a great photographer, bring your baby to the studio and presto! Unfortunately, a baby photography session can be a disorganized nightmare if you don’t plan ahead.

When Should I Have My Baby Photographed?

The absolute best time to have your newborn baby photographed is within the first 5-10 days of life. Seem early?  Getting pictures taken this early will ensure your baby will be at its sleepiest state – therefore allowing the baby photographer to mold and fold your baby into all those irresistibly cute poses.  Plus, baby acne has a tendency to develop later, so an earlier appointment offers this added benefit. Although you might be a bit tired, this early appointment will be worth it when you experience a very easy baby photography session and receive a beautiful piece of art.

Make Your Appointment Early

Obviously, if you need to have your baby photographed so soon after birth, you will need to make your appointment well in advance. Schedule your appointment based on your due date and call your selected baby photographer a few months before your desired session date and time.  Many of the best baby photographers get booked early so don’t wait until the last minute.

What Should I Bring to Ensure My Baby Photography Session Goes Smoothly?

• Your baby should be wearing minimal, loose-fitting clothing.  Wrap blankets around them in their car seat if it is cold.
• Keep the diaper loose to prevent diaper lines on your baby’s skin.
• Bring a pacifier, extra food and anything sentimental you want in a shot.
• Do you want the picture to match your nursery? Bring any matching items you would like in the photos to the session such as a blanket, hat, wrap or stuffed animal.
